Is this task ready to automate?

Green flags

• The task occurs frequently and follows a recognisable pattern.
• Inputs are digital, consistent and legally available.
• A person can explain the rules without saying “you just know.”
• Correct and incorrect outputs can be distinguished.
• Failures can be reversed without serious harm.

Red flags

• The underlying process changes every week.
• The task requires delicate judgement or relationship context.
• Nobody owns the process.
• There is no way to audit what happened.
• A mistake could create legal, financial or safety consequences.

Run the smallest pilot

Start with one user, one workflow and one month of real examples. Keep approval with a human. Compare the pilot with the old process using time, error rate and completion rate.
